The great thing about being awarded Carer’s Allowance is that from now on you are accepted as being a Carer by the Jobcentre Plus and other bits of the Department for Work and Pensions.
However, to take this any further we need to think about your circumstances. I'm going to give you five options, which probably cover the majority of people:
- ‘I am single, not in paid work, and am not planning to be in paid work (and I'm too young to get Pension Credit)’
- ‘I am single and in paid work (and I'm too young to get Pension Credit)’
- ‘I am one of a couple, and am caring for my partner (and we’re too young to get Pension Credit)’
- ‘I am one of a couple, and my partner is working (and we’re too young to get Pension Credit)’
- ‘I am old enough to get Pension Credit’
